Burnham E. ‘Willie’ Williams

Military graveside services for Burnham E. “Willie” Williams, 79, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Williams died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Brandon Woods Retirement Center.

He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Williamsburg, the son of William and Francis Carson Williams. He graduated from Williamsburg High School. He lived in Lawrence for more than 20 years.

Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lawrence. He worked as a machinist and had worked in the sign business in several Lawrence locations.

He married Naomi Ruth Campbell on March 7, 1947, in Ottawa. She died in 1965.

A son, Warren, died in 1969.

Survivors include three sons, John, Donald and Bruce, all of Lawrence; a daughter, Sonja Porter, Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Nolton, Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Harmon Williams, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
