Ellen Irene Witt Grass
RUSSELL ? Services for Ellen Irene Witt Grass, 81, Russell, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Russell. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Russell.
Mrs. Grass died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Center in Lawrence.
She was born Aug. 12, 1923, near Gorham, the daughter of Anthony Henry and Ethel Mae Waudby Witt.
Mrs. Grass attended schools in Gorham and Russell, graduating from Russell High School in 1942. She attended Kansas University and Fort Hays State College, where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in education.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her father then later managed the Witt Family Farms for several years.
Mrs. Grass was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, St. Mary’s Guild and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Fort Hays State.
She married Edgar B. Grass Jr., on June 10, 1952, in Russell. He survives, of Russell.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen D. Willets, Lawrence; two sons, Edgar B. Grass III, Jamison, Penn., and Eric B. Grass, South Lake, Texas; two brothers, Anthony H. Witt Jr. and Cecil E. Witt, both of Russell; two sisters, Evelyn M. Meekel, Wichita, and Bea M. Davis, Denver; and eight grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ellen Grass Memorial Fund with St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sent in care of Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, 610 N. Maple St., Russell 67665.
