KU shuts out Furman

? The 21st-ranked Kansas University soccer team opened play in the Furman Tournament on Thursday night with a 3-0 victory against Furman at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The Jayhawks scored three goals during a 12-minute spurt in the first half and Furman (1-4) never recovered.

Senior midfielder Amy Geha started the KU offense in the 15th minute when she scored after junior forward Caroline Smith’s shot ricocheted off FU goalie Andie Hinshaw. Smith scored nine minutes later off an assist from sophomore midfielder Nicole Cauzillo, and Cauzillo chipped in KU’s final goal in the 26th minute off a pass from sophomore forward Jessica Kilpatrick.

Kansas (5-0) hasn’t allowed a goal all season as senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller logged her school-record fifth straight shutout.

The Jayhawks play No. 7 Clemson at 11 a.m. Saturday for the tournament title.
