Stauffer services

? Services for George W. Stauffer Jr., 73, Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Mr. Stauffer died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Cherryvale, the son of George W. and Bonnie Bishop Stauffer. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, in 1948. He attended Kansas State University.

Mr. Stauffer owned and ran a milk route for several years. He also worked for several construction companies before beginning with Dunbar & Son Construction in Lawrence as a heavy-equipment operator. He retired in 1998.

He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 101, in Kansas City, Mo. He also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ottawa. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Ottawa.

He married Nancy Sumner on Dec. 23, 1948, in Lyndon. She died March 22, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Gilroy, Ottawa; two sons, Bill, Parsons, and Andy, Ottawa; a sister, Shirley Carlson, Newton; two brothers, Bob, Chipita Park, Colo., and Ronnie, Baldwin; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
