Republican headquarters vandalized

Chris Miller, chairman of the Douglas County Republican Party, examines a broken window left after someone threw a rock and a burned American flag into the party headquarters early Thursday.

Douglas County Republicans were cleaning up broken glass Thursday morning after someone threw a burned American flag and a rock into their headquarters at 10th and Kentucky streets.

The flag had writing that said “No Bush” and “No Kerry,” said James Dunn, who owns the building. It was unclear whether the flag was on fire when it was thrown through a window, knocking a photo of President Bush onto the floor.

Police were investigating the incident, a spokesman said.

“Obviously it’s somebody who likes to sneak around under cover of darkness and doesn’t like to make their positions known,” said Chris Miller, chairman of the county Republicans. “It’s a sad commentary on the people behind it.”
