John W. Smith

? Memorial services for John W. Smith, 86, Overland Park, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at DW Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, in Overland Park.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was cremated.

He was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Charles and Irma Ruth Smith. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Mo. He had homes at Lake of the Ozarks, Longboat Key, Fla., and Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II in San Antonio. He worked at Hallmark Cards as a pressman and eventually in sales. He later purchased Park Printing Co., Hailman Printing Co. of Kansas City and Kansas Color Press in Lawrence. His other ventures included Marcon in North Kansas City, Viva International, in which he was active on a daily basis.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Wells, Leawood; two sons, Randy, Kansas City, Mo., and Rick, Marco Island, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Weaver; six grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
