Tampa Bay’s Alstott out at least one month

Tampa, Fla. — Mike Alstott will be sidelined at least a month after spraining his right knee during Tampa Bay’s 19-7 victory over the Chicago Bears.

Alstott, who missed most of last season after neck surgery, was hurt late in the third quarter Sunday when he was tackled for a 4-yard loss by Bears linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and landed awkwardly beneath a pile.

“Four weeks is what our timetable is right now, depending on how it goes,” coach Jon Gruden said Monday, adding that the injury is to Alstott’s medial collateral ligament.

The Bucs (2-5) already lost running back Charlie Garner to season-ending knee surgery.

The Bucs have a bye this week, and Gruden said he has not decided who will move into the lineup for Alstott, who is more of a running back than a traditional fullback.

Favre sprains hand in win over Dallas

Green Bay, Wis. — All-Pro Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre sprained his right hand in leading a 41-20 victory over Dallas, and the hand progressively became worse Sunday.

Favre tried to fend off unblocked tackle La’Roi Glover midway through the first half and his hand hit Glover’s chest. But he still completed 23 of 29 passes for 258 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, and said the hand hurt worse as the game went on — mostly on snaps, not throws.

His practice work will be limited this week, offensive coordinator Tom Rossley said.

Favre has started 215 straight games, including playoffs, an NFL record.

Favre missed much of a loss to the Giants on Oct. 3 with a head injury, but started eight days later against Tennessee’s Titans.
