Texas trips KU, 1-0

Longhorns escape with victory in 2OT

? Texas’ Kelly Wilson scored with less than two minutes to play in double overtime, lifting the Longhorns to a 1-0 victory Sunday over No. 6 Kansas at Myers Stadium.

With the loss, KU drops to 15-3-0 overall and 7-2 in Big 12 Conference play this season. The Jayhawks can tie Texas A&M for the Big 12 championship by defeating Iowa State in the regular-season finale Friday. Earlier Sunday, the Aggies defeated Iowa State, 1-0, to finish with an 8-2 Big 12 mark.

Texas (11-5-1, 6-3-1) dominated the first half, outshooting the Jayhawks 12-3. Kansas hung around thanks to senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller, who collected seven saves, including four in the first half.

“Texas deserved to win today,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We fought hard, but we came out and played a little flat. They jumped on us in the first period. We did a better job in the second half, but they deserved to win today because of all the opportunities chances they were able to create.”

KU will play host to Iowa State at 3 p.m. Friday at Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
