Emma Olife Hizar Morozzo

Services with Social Order of Beauceant Honors for Emma Olife Hizar Morozzo, 93, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Morozzo died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born March 20, 1911, in Iantha, Mo., the daughter of William Oscar and Martha Ann Davis Hizar.

Mrs. Morozzo attended Haines Grove and Iantha grade schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1929. She attended Ozark Wesleyan College in Carthage, Mo., and obtained a teaching certificate.

She taught in Liberal, Mo., and later worked for the Crawford County Treasurer’s Office in Girard.

She was active in the Morris County American Red Cross and many civic organizations. She was vice chairwoman of the Morris County Republican Party and a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1960. She was elected to the Kansas Citizens Safety Council in 1956. She was appointed to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Council of Women in 1957 and received the Carol Lane Award from the National Safety Council in 1958. She also held positions in the Kansas Congress Parent-Teacher Assn.

After moving to Lawrence, Mrs. Morozzo served three terms as president of the Social Order of the Beauceant, and was president of Kappa Kappa Iota educational organization. She was past worthy advisor high priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and past worthy matron, Adah No. 7, Order of the Eastern Star. She served as deacon of Plymouth Congregational Church.

She married John Morozzo on Feb. 12, 1939, in Pittsburg. He died July 9, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Catherine Hatfield, Lawrence; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Plymouth Congregational Church music fund.
