- Among the pregame factoids displayed on the stadium’s large digital TV screen was: “For the first time, former OU offensive coordinator Mike Mangino returns to OU.” Mike??? It hasn’t been that long — less than three years — since Mark Mangino left the Sooners for Kansas. …
- Mangino was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty by side judge Freeman Johns late in the third quarter. Mangino was miffed after KU’s Kenneth Thompson was whistled for interfering with an OU player’s opportunity to make a fair catch on a punt. After the game, Mangino said he couldn’t comment on the penalty, but did say: “I was told not to be standing on the field, and I wasn’t.” …
- Running back Clark Green, who hadn’t been expected to play because of an undisclosed injury, subbed for starter John Randle midway through the first quarter when Randle had to be helped off the field because of an apparent ankle injury.
