No suspects in Christian bookstore slayings

? Detectives say they have no witnesses or suspects in the murder of an elderly couple killed in an apparent robbery at their Christian bookstore.

Police found John and Mildred Caylor dead Wednesday inside their suburban Kansas City business. Authorities said a small amount of money was taken.

A customer found the front door of Caylor’s Raytown Bible & Music Store locked on Wednesday and alerted police after seeing a body lying in the store. Authorities would not comment on the investigation or how the Caylors were killed, only saying the couple suffered obvious wounds.

Police said they had no witnesses or suspects in the case.

Detective Tom Prudden of the Kansas City Metropolitan Major Case Squad said the store’s cash register was empty, but a donation jar wasn’t disturbed.

John, 79, and Mildred, 76, were “old-time” Southern Baptists who focused on spreading the gospel and sometimes held tent revivals in their parking lot, friends said. The Caylors’ home adjoined the bookstore and they were accepting donations for various gospel projects.

“They were a real team,” said longtime friend Joan Kline. “They brought a lot of smiles and laughs with their silly bantering back and forth.”
