Ottawa resident Cal Lantis, of Coldwell Banker Lantis and Associates in Ottawa, was elected president of the Kansas Association of Realtors at its annual convention Oct. 11-13 in Topeka. Lantis has been a member of the association for 15 years. Lantis served as president of the Franklin County Board of Realtors from 1996 to 1998.

Rita Hoffman, a physical therapist at Neu Physical Therapy Center in Lawrence, recently attended a conference “Pregnancy and Postpartum: Clinical Highlights” in San Diego. The course focused on physical changes that occur during pregnancy including low back and sacroiliac joint pain.

Amy Schlatter, associate photographer, has joined The JGladman Gallery in Lawrence. She provides consultation, photography and production services.

Schlatter has more than two years of photographic experience. She graduated from Kansas University in May 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies. She also attended the Kansas Professional Photographers School in June.

Peter Knutson, a financial adviser with McDaniel and McDaniel Financial Services, passed the certified financial planner examination. He also has a certification in long-term care. Knutson earned a bachelor’s degree in financial planning and real estate from Baylor University.

Honors and awards

Lawrence resident Mike McGrew, vice chairman of Coldwell Banker McGrew Real Estate Inc. in Lawrence, received the Kansas Association of Realtors’ Distinguished Service Award during the association’s annual convention Oct. 11-13 in Topeka.

McGrew is past president of the association and was named Realtor of the Year in 2000. He was the National Association of Realtors Region 9 vice president in 2003.

Coming events

Anyone interested in investigating in the importing and exporting business is invited to attend a session from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Kansas City-Mexico Development office, 1600 Baltimore, Suite 250.

The meeting, sponsored by the Kansas City, Missouri-Mexico Trade and Business Initiatives Corp., is the second of four “Trade Thursdays” focusing on international trade and business.

David Burdick, principal of Priority Logistics Inc. in Kansas City, will be the primary speaker. Burdick, who has been involved in logistics for more than 18 years, recently signed a major contract with the Port of Manzanillo in Mexico. He will discuss the seamless process of door-to-door service in North American trade.

Real Estate Investors Coaching Academy, founded by Bonita Joy Yoder, is presenting a “Real Estate Lifestyle Bootcamp” in Lawrence. The workshops will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.

This workshop is a hands-on real estate investors coaching weekend with a spiritual orientation. Topics will include doing your first deal in 90 days or less and using your intuition as a spirit-centered investor.

Yoder is a local real estate broker with Joy Realty. She also is the author of a book regarding a spiritual approach to real estate investing which is set to be released by January.

The American Business Women’s Assn. Lawrence Express Network will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hereford House, Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive. Jennifer Turpin, of Blue Cross Blue Shield, will speak on health insurance issues. The business spotlight will be presented by Jessie Kwatamdia, of Douglas County Senior Services. The Kansas University Small Business Development Center will present “The Small Business Tune Up” from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, 734 Vt.

The workshop will look at 33 business management areas. The cost is $40 in advance and $50 at the door.
