Jayhawks trip Aggies

? Kansas University’s soccer squad took a huge step toward a Big 12 Conference title, beating Texas A&M, 1-0, Friday at Aggie Soccer Complex.

The No. 6-ranked Jayhawks (15-2 overall, 7-1 Big 12) scored in the 59th minute. Senior forward Rachel Gilfillan took a pass from junior forward Jessica Smith and fired a shot past Aggie goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak.

Despite being outshot 17-8, KU was able to put away No. 13 A&M (12-4, 7-2).

“This was really a gutsy effort by our team,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “It wasn’t a really pretty game, but I’m proud of how we battled to the end.”

Senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller tied her school record with her 11th shutout of the season. The Seattle native collected five saves.

The win was KU’s first-ever over the Aggies. With one more win, the Jayhawks will clinch a share of the Big 12 regular-season title. Wins in the last two games will give KU its first-ever conference championship.

KU travels Sunday to Austin, Texas, for a 1 p.m. game against Texas.
