Warmer weather expected this week

Tired of cool and cold weather? Lawrence, which will be cloudy today, will warm up by the middle of the week — with temperatures reaching up to the upper 70s, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s kind of feeling more like late summer than fall,” Schack said. “We have temperatures approaching 80 by the middle of the week.”

But not today. This morning’s skies were cloudy, with the temperature starting off in the upper 50s. The Lawrence area had some light sprinkles this morning in the Basehor and Leavenworth areas, Schack said.

Today’s high will reach 69 in Lawrence, although some areas east and south will get a little more sun and hit the 70-degree mark, Schack said. Winds will be from the east, 5 to 15 mph.

“Tuesday is shaping up to be very nice,” Schack said.

Overnight the temperature will drop to 50 by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s high will be 71, with northeast winds, 5 to 8 mph.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 48, with the high reaching 76 by late Wednesday afternoon.

There is an isolated chance of some rain Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with temperatures falling to a low of 55 by Thursday morning, Schack said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night.

Thursday’s morning low will be 55, with the high reaching 79.
