Chesang places third at Pre-National meet
TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Kansas University’s Benson Chesang placed third at the NCAA Pre-Nationals cross country meet on Saturday.
Chesang, a sophomore, was third of 252 men in the 8K race in 23:54.6. Kansas’ Matt French was 100th in 25:13.7, and Chris Jones was 108th in 25:17.3
KU was 22nd of 37 teams with 488 points. Colorado won the team title with 63 points. Matt Gonzales of New Mexico was the overall winner in 23:57.2.
Kansas’ women’s team was 36th. Connie Abbott led the Jayhawks with a 128th-place finish in the 6K race in 22:25.
In the men’s open race, KU’s Paul Hefferon was 17th in 25:25.1, and Joshy Mathadil was 53rd in 26:04.5.
Kansas will travel Oct. 30 to Topeka for the Big 12 Conference Championships.
