Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church, had its semi-annual Court of Honor on Sept. 28 at the church. Wahnita Henry and Eva and Dick Ellis were recognized for their contributions to the troop.

Bill Berkowitz, Justin Deaver, Philip Gilreath and Mason McCurdy were recognized for earning the Eagle rank. Justin Deaver and Mason McCurdy earned their Bronze Palm.

Ben Bartels, Evan Cloar and Michael Smith earned their Snorkeling BSA Patch. Brandon Mailand and Stephen Wilson earned their Religious Awards. Dominick Reiske earned the World Conservation Award. Stefan Kuczera received an Interpreter Strip for Polish. Cyril Cook, Justin Deaver, David Long, Brandon Mailand, Henry Reiske and Todd Roberts obtained the 50-Miler Award. Justin Deaver, Brendan Golledge, David Long, Brandon Mailand, Mason McCurdy, Dominick Reiske, Henry Reiske, Will Sharp, Michael Smith, Tristan Wagner and Stephen Wilson earned their Paul Bunion. Justin Deaver, Mason McCurdy, Henry Reiske, Will Sharp, Peter Tuttle and Tristan Wagner, as well as adults Wayne Deaver, Mark Moore, Glen Sharp, Herb Tuttle, Bruce Wagner and Rod Zinn were recognized for having more than 100 nights of camping.

It was the last Court of Honor that Rod Zinn, longtime troop and advancement chairman, presided over. The new troop chairman is Glen Sharp, and the new advancement chairman is Wayne Deaver.

Cub Scout Pack 3059, chartered to First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, had a family campout Sept. 25 at Hidden Valley Girl Scout Camp in Lawrence. Activities included astronomy, games, skits and cooking. The Cub Scouts were able to use some new camping equipment that was purchased with a donation from IBM. Nearly 100 people attended the event, which was coordinated by Cubmaster Chris Golledge.

Scouts from Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, attended a Merit Badge College Sept. 24-26 at Pittsburg State University.

The Scouts camped out for two nights and earned more than 48 merit badges. Scouts who attended were David Ohlhausen, Douglas Rawlings, Brendon Golledge, Tim Barta, Dom Reiske, Todd Roberts, Peter Bray, Jaron Brynds, Michael Smith, Evan Cloar, Tristan Wagner and Mason McCurdy. They were accompanied by Richard Rawlings, Sue Reiske, Rachel Kaslaitis and Harry Smith.
