J.W. Basinger

? Services for J.W. Basinger, 76, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin.

Mr. Basinger died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., after a short illness.

He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Cotton Plant, Ark., the son of Elmer and Bessie Eary Basinger. He attended school in Cotton Plant and moved to Lawrence in 1969.

Mr. Basinger worked for Rocketdyne in California, which manufactured rocket engines for the Mercury and Apollo space programs. He was transferred to Neosho, Mo., in 1956. He also worked at Bob’s Custom Cabinets in Lawrence for more than 30 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Bond, Bonner Springs, and Seretta Basinger, Overland Park; a son, Steve, Shawnee; a brother, Sonny, Paso Robles, Calif.; companion Dorothy Armstrong, of the home; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
