New grave considered for jazz great Parker

The American Jazz Museum Board is considering moving jazz musician Charlie Parker's remains to a new grave.

The board voted Tuesday to explore the idea of moving Parker's remains to the 18th and Vine District. The vote was prompted by a recent trash dumping at Lincoln Cemetery, where Parker is buried.

The board favors moving Parker's remains to a mausoleum in a sculpture of Parker at Charlie Parker Memorial Plaza, near the jazz museum.

Charges filed in weapons raid

A Leavenworth man was charged Tuesday with two felonies after officers said they discovered weapons and explosives at his home.

Michael Goings, 51, was charged with one count each of criminal use of explosives and criminal use of weapons.

Police searching Goings' home last week found two apparent booby traps, a homemade grenade launcher, 11 pipe bombs, 43 pounds of black powder and an assortment of chemicals.
