KU students receive leadership award

Two Kansas University seniors were announced Saturday as recipients of this year’s Excellence in Community Service, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) award at Kansas University.

Gaston Araoz, Bolivia, and Susan Henry, Fort Scott, each won a $500 scholarship. The award was presented during halftime of Saturday’s football game.

The award is given annually to one male and one female student. Recipients are selected by Student Union Activities and the Board of Class Officers.

Araoz, who is majoring in political science and international studies, is a past president of the International Student Assn. and is an international student ambassador.

Henry, who is majoring in communication studies with a minor in leadership, is a member of the Diversity Peer Education Team and is vice president for recruitment for the KU Panhellenic Assn.
