VFW group gives nod to Ryun

Veterans of Foreign Wars political action committee has endorsed U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., in his bid for a fifth term.

The endorsement was based on Ryun’s service on the House Armed Services Committee and voting record, according to a letter by Salvatore Caprichio, director of the VFW-PAC.

Ryun said he was pleased to receive the endorsement, adding that “honoring our veterans who have sacrificed for our country is one of our foremost duties.”

Ryun faces Democrat Nancy Boyda of Topeka in the Nov. 2 election. The 2nd Congressional District includes western Lawrence.

Docking endorses Brownback opponent

Jill Docking, a Democrat who failed in 1996 to defeat U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., has endorsed Brownback’s opponent in the Nov. 2 general election, Democrat Lee Jones.

Docking said Brownback’s votes in Congress have hurt most Kansans, and benefited only the wealthy.

Jones said he was delighted to receive Docking’s help, saying she is one of the state’s outstanding leaders.
