Seahawks hire coaches

Seabury Academy has hired Gunar Harmon to coach its boys and girls soccer teams, athletic director Brian Clyne said Wednesday.

The boys (4-7) have just three games remaining, so Clyne, who has been coaching on an interim basis, will finish out the fall season. Harmon will guide the girls in the spring and take over the boys team next fall.

Former coach Shawn Sherlock left Seabury last spring after just one year. Clyne hopes Harmon will last longer. Harmon was a Lawrence High assistant in 2000-01 and has worked in the Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. since 1999.

Clyne also announced Wednesday that John Edison had joined Seabury as the head coach for junior high girls basketball and assistant high school varsity coach. Edison was a two-time All-KCAC selection at Kansas Wesleyan before spending three years there as an assistant coach. He spent last season as an assistant to Bob Chipman at Washburn University.

“He’s way overqualified,” Clyne said of Edison, who moved to Lawrence to be closer to his children.
