Chance for frost Tuesday morning

Clear blue skies greeted Lawrence-area residents this morning, with light winds and cool temperatures in the 50s.

“It’s just a great way to start off the week,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Temperatures were expected to climb to 62 by noon and reach a high of 67 by 4 p.m. today, Schack said. Skies will be mostly clear, with winds shifting to the north and east 5 to 10 mph. But some patchy frost could develop overnight.

“Tonight, we’ll bottom out around 34 degrees,” Schack said. Althought Lawrence is expected to stay above the freezing mark, the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory overnight for Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties.

Tuesday’s weather will be slightly warmer, with the high reaching 69 under clear skies and southeast winds 5-10 p.m.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature won’t be as cold, dipping down to 48. Wednesday’s high will reach 70, with skies becoming cloudy . On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, there’s a chance for showers and thunderstorms, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday, a 30 percent chance on Wednesday night and a 20 percent chance on Thursday.
