Fightin’ Indians clobber SAGU, 44-17

? The Haskell Indian Nations University football squad had a solid day offensively, rolling to a 44-17 victory over Southwest Assemblies of God U. on Saturday.

The Fightin’ Indians (3-3) leaped to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. Jerry Racine raced for a 71-yard touchdown run, Mac Farris booted a 23-yard field goal and Marcus Bennally scored on a four-yard TD run.

SAGU (1-4) rallied with 17 points in the second quarter to tie the game, but the Fightin’ Indians reeled off three more TDs and two field goals to take control. Cory Murphy returned a second-quarter punt for a TD, and Jody Franklin threw two TD passes in the fourth quarter to ice the victory.

Haskell travels Saturday to Peru, Neb., for a game against Peru State.
