Firearms permits available

Firearms deer season will open Wednesday in Kansas and run through Dec. 12, and it is not too late to obtain a permit.

Wildlife and Parks is offering a number of resident deer permits that may be purchased over the counter.

Perhaps the most popular is the whitetail either sex permit ($31) available at KDWP offices, at most license vendors or through the mail.

Hunters who have already obtained any other antlered deer permit may not purchase this permit.

Whitetail antlerless only permits ($31) and whitetail antlerless only deer game tags ($11 resident; $21 non-resident) also may be purchased over the counter.

Hunters can buy one whitetail antlerless only deer permit, which is valid on public or private land in the unit specified on the permit.

Any hunter, resident or nonresident may purchase as many as four deer game tags.

However, only one deer hutning tag may be used in units 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 14. Deer tags may not be used in units 1, 2, 17 and 18.
