Eileen W. Jones Buby

Mrs. Buby died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born March 19, 1916, in Sesser, Ill., the daughter of Hiram and Hannah Schneider Henshaw.

After high school she attended nurse’s training and became the head nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis. She also served as the nurse for her husband, Dr. James B. Jones, in St. Louis for many years. During the Depression, she was a public health nurse in a “Hooverville” on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis.

She was a member of the Brentwood Congregational Church in St. Louis, and the Missouri Nurses Assn. and the American Nurses Assn.

Mrs. Buby moved to Lawrence in 2003 from Arizona.

She married to Dr. James B. Jones on May 3, 1940, in St. Louis. He died earlier. She then married Grant H. Buby on Dec. 27, 1978. He also died earlier.

Survivors include two daughters, Johannah Bryant, Lawrence, and Susan Jones, St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Sandra James, Eldon, Mo.; a son, Dr. James B. Jones Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; a stepson, Winston Buby, Boone, N.C.; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mrs. Buby has donated her body to the Kansas University School of Medicine Warren-McElwain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
