June Celestine Hoff

A private memorial service for June Celestine Hoff, 87, Lawrence, will be later.

Mrs. Hoff died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

She was born June, 1, 1917, at Fort Logan Army Hospital in Denver, the daughter of Leonard Henning and Mary Demmer Carlson. She lived in Fort Omaha, Neb., Honolulu and Fort Riley before her family moved to San Diego when she was 10 years old.

She attended Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School and San Diego High School, graduating in 1934.

She was married to John Randolph McCullough from 1935 to 1940, Teddy Saleebey from 1942 to 1964 and Alvin Leroy Hoff from 1966 until his death in 1994.

She and her husband Teddy Saleebey owned a nursery from 1942 to 1946. In 1955 she began a career in personnel administration. She was a placement director at San Diego State University, University of California at Irvine and University of California Extension, San Francisco. She was an advocate for open employment and anti-discrimination and specialized in the hiring of minorities.

Mrs. Hoff moved to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Saleebey, Lawrence; a daughter, Joan Lounsbery, Santa Rosa, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Presbyterian Manor or Van Go Mobile Arts, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
