Bill Berkowitz' Eagle Court of Honor will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Lawrence Jewish Community Center.

Berkowitz began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in Pack 3051. He advanced to the Webelo rank, earned his Arrow of Light and all 20 Webelos badges. Berkowitz then joined Troop 61 and later transferred to Troop 52. He also is a member of Venture Crew 2691. He earned 38 merit badges. He earned the Jewish Religious medal, the Ner-Tamid, the World Conservation Award, 50 Miler Award, Snorkeling Award and Blue Mountain Award.

As a Boy Scout, Berkowitz served in the following leadership positions: scribe, chaplain's aide, assistant senior patrol leader, historian, instructor and troop guide. In Venture Crew 2691, he also has served as treasurer and two terms as vice president in charge of programs.

Berkowitz has attended summer camp at Camp Theodore Naish Scout Reservation, H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation and Camp Alexander. Berkowitz has attended both Philmont Scout Ranch and Sea Base twice. He is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and served the local chapter as newsletter editor. Berkowitz served on the staff of Rotary Camp, a camp for severely disabled Scouts in 2003 and 2004.

For his Eagle Scout project, Berkowitz did work at the Jewish Cemetery near Eudora. Berkowitz and his fellow Scouts repaired and replaced fencing, filled in around gravesites and headstones that had sunk. They also moved a large pile of dirt and did some landscaping.

Berkowitz serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 52. He is a senior at Free State High School. He is president of the Math Club and competed in the National Business Professionals of America competition in computer programming. He is a national merit semifinalist. His parents are David and Katherine Berkowitz.

Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council has launched its first online fund-raising initiative. The three-year "Commit To A Girl" campaign features information on the challenges girls face locally and nationally, and opportunities to support Girl Scouting in northeast Kansas. The Web site is at www

.girlscouts.net. The council represents 13 counties in northeast Kansas including Douglas, Jefferson and Shawnee.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to West Side Presbyterian Church, had its October campout Oct. 2 at the Ibex Climbing Gym in Kansas City, Mo. Josh Gore, Drew Braden and Jacob Christilles earned their Climbing Merit Badge. Other Scouts who attended were Micah Clark, Grady Walker, Ben Vogel, Logan Marienau, Ryan Marienau, Bryant Denning, Will Armstrong, Keith Cowart, Matt Avila, Ted Olson, Brad Klug, Jeremy Woodhead, Matt James, David Hanson and Kevin Cottrell. They were accompanied by adult leaders George Vogel, Cammie Braden, Tom Gore, Laurie Marienau, Dennis Christilles and Scott Woodhead.

The Troop camped Nov. 13-14 at Indian Cave State Park along the Missouri River in Nebraska. Scouts practiced backpacking and cold weather camping skills. Scouts who attended were Drew Braden, Newt Heston, Josh Gore, Mitch McCune, Jeremy Woodhead and Logan Marienau. They were accompanied by assistant scoutmasters Tom Gore, Scott Braden and Scott Woodhead.
