CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Kansas University's swimming and diving squad is in third place after Friday's second day at the Nike Cup.
KU's 393 team points trails only Purdue (682.5) and host North Carolina (522.5) in the eight-team field.
KU's highlight Friday was a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The Jayhawk squad of senior Amy Gruber, junior Lindsey Urbatchka and sophomores Jenny Short and Hannah Bakke posted a season-best time of 1:43.33.
In Thursday's first day of competition, KU posted four second-place finishes -- Gruber in the 50 freestyle, Gina Gnatzig in the 500 freestyle, and in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays.
Gruber's clocking of 22.99 and Gnatzig's 4:52.60 both were NCAA provisional qualifying times.
Gnatzig was joined on the 200 free relay team by Aly Colver, Miranda Isaac Anne Liggett. In the 400 medley, Isaac and Liggett teamed with Becca Zarazan and Short.
The Cup concludes today.
