St. Joseph, Mo. (ap) — Quotations for Wednesday:

Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to 3.00 higher. Heifer calves under 600 lbs traded 1.00-4.00 higher, with instances as much 8.00 higher on 5 weight heifer calves. Some weakness was noted on heifers weighing over 600 lbs, especially on the top side of the price ranges. Demand was much improved for all classes of calves with several more local backgrounders in the market. Prices were much more consistent with fewer of the early, late, and unweaned calves selling below the bulk. With each passing week, a larger percentage of the calves are weaned and vaccinated. Yearling feeders were not well tested. Note: There will be no feeder cattle auction next Wednesday and all classes of cattle will be sold on Monday November 22nd.
