Olathe Services for John Wayne Young, 62, Topeka, will be at 6:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Olathe.
Mr. Young died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was cremated.
He was born Feb. 6, 1942, in Magness, Ark., the son of John Benjamin and Kittie Shell Young. The family moved in 1953 to Eudora, where he attended Eudora Grade School and graduated from Eudora High School in 1959.
He received an accounting degree from Clark's Business College in Topeka. He received an associate of arts degree in 1982 and a bachelor's degree in 1986 from Washburn University in Topeka. He received a master's degree in 1996 from Baker University in Baldwin.
Mr. Young had worked at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence while attending school. He later worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years, in Chicago and Topeka, and retired in 1995.
He married Denise Dicke on Aug. 26, 1967. They divorced.
Survivors include a son, Jon, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Tiffany Young, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother, Eudora; and four sisters, Opal Kaufman, Eudora, Paulette Young, Edgerton, Shirley Varney, Olathe, and Jonell Cundiff, Rockwood, Tenn.
The family suggests memorials to Special Olympics, 5280 Foxridge Drive, Mission 66202.
