CARBONDALE Santa Fe Trail guard Lindsay Boss will sign a letter of intent to play basketball for Western Illinois on Wednesday.
"It's always been her dream to play Division One," SFT coach Brenda Dahl said. "She wanted that very badly."
Boss, a three-time All-Kaw Valley League selection, averaged 14 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds a game as a junior, but she wasn't swamped with offers from Division One schools because of her height.
"I think that's what scared a lot of them away," said Dahl, who said Boss had several offers from junior colleges and Division Two programs. "She plays so much bigger than she is. She's only 5-4, but I never notice her height. She does so many things to make up for that."
Boss's height didn't scare Division One Western Illinois, which won the Mid Continent Conference championship last season.
"She has all the potential," Dahl said. "She just has to go with it. She's a really humble kid that doesn't want to try to do too much. That drives a coach crazy. She comes out a little bit more every year. Now that she has this decision out of the way, I think she'll be more relaxed. She needs to not hold anything back and use all the talent she has."
Boss is one of four starters returning from last year's 14-8 squad.
