College Station, Texas Sonny Cumbie fired a pass into the end zone, Byron Jones swatted it away, and hundreds of maroon-clad players and fans stormed the field to celebrate.
The Texas A&M Aggies are getting this overtime thing down pat.
Courtney Lewis scored on a 25-yard run on the first play of overtime, and Jones knocked down Cumbie's fourth-down pass, sending Texas A&M to a thrilling 32-25 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.
The Aggies went into an extra period for the third time in four weeks, winning for the second time at Kyle Field.
"I guess we're just about one play better or one play worse than everybody," A&M coach Dennis Franchione said. "We made one more play tonight."
Lewis' second touchdown run of the afternoon helped the 22nd-ranked Aggies (7-3, 4-2 Big 12 Conference) dramatically end a two-game losing streak that included an overtime loss at Baylor and a seven-point defeat against Oklahoma last week.
After Tech quarterback Cumbie's 50th and final pass of the afternoon fell incomplete, A&M players rushed the field, and the frenzied sellout crowd of 82,278 erupted with cheers. The Red Raiders (6-4, 4-3) watched the wild celebration in stunned silence.
Thousands of fans locked arms and sang the "Aggie War Hymn," A&M's traditional sendoff after games. When the final verse was sung, members of the Corps of Cadets sprinted onto the field to celebrate another rousing finish, this time in the last home game of the season.
"I can't think of a better way to go out," A&M senior offensive lineman Geoff Hangartner said. "Last game at Kyle Field, beating Tech in a rivalry game ... it doesn't get a whole lot better than that."
No. 2 Oklahoma 30, Nebraska 3
Norman, Okla. -- Jason White threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns to help Oklahoma rout Nebraska.
With standout running back Adrian Peterson seeing little action because of a shoulder injury, White completed 29 of 35 passes. After throwing three incomplete passes on his first eight attempts, the sixth-year senior completed a school-record 18 in a row in his final home game for the Sooners (10-0, 7-0 Big 12).
David Dyches kicked a 39-yard field goal as time expired to break the shutout for the Cornhuskers (5-5, 3-4).
No. 25 Oklahoma St. 42, Baylor 21
Stillwater, Okla. -- Seymore Shaw was a solid replacement for the injured Vernand Morency, rushing for 172 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries for Oklahoma State.
Donovan Woods threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Cowboys (7-3, 4-3 Big 12) beat the Bears for the ninth straight time.
Morency, the nation's sixth-leading rusher, did not play after having fluid drained from his knee.
Colorado 38, Kansas State 31
Boulder, Colo. -- Joel Klatt threw a 64-yard touchdown to Ron Monteilh with five seconds left to make Colorado bowl-eligible.
In yet another unusual chapter to a most unusual season, Monteilh found himself inexplicably wide open against Kansas State's prevent defense. The senior made the catch, ran the final 20 yards for the score -- the first of his career -- and Colorado (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) had the winning points.
The win kept the Buffs alive in the Big 12 North; with a win over Nebraska in two weeks and help, they would make the improbable trip to Kansas City.
The loss ended postseason hopes for the Wildcats (4-6, 2-5), and Bill Snyder's team will stay home during bowl season for the first time in 12 years.
