KU softball inks two

Val Chapple, third baseman on Olathe East’s defending Class 6A state championship softball team, has signed a letter of intent with Kansas University.

KU coach Tracy Bunge also announced the signing of Stevie Crisosto of Palo Cedro, Calif., an infielder-pitcher.

Chapple is a National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-America First-Team selection. She holds eight school records at Olathe East, including batting average (.598), slugging percentage (.978) and on-base percentage (.602).

Chapple also can play in the outfield and catcher.

Crisosto led Foothill High to a league championship each season she played and was named all-conference, all-section and player of the year.

As a member of the California Chaos club team, Crisosto was named outstanding pitcher and most valuable player for four years.

Kansas softball will opens its regular season Feb. 4-6 at a tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
