Taka MatoShuje Goodtracks

? Feast and prayer services for Taka MatoShuje Goodtracks, 42, Ignacio, will be at 7 p.m. today at the home of his sister and brother in Ignacio. A sunrise service will be Wednesday followed by a requiem mass at 10 a.m. at La Iglesia de San Ignacio. Burial will be in Southern Ute Tribal Cemetery, followed by traditional ceremonies and a community feast.

Mr. Goodtracks died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at New Mexico State University.

He was born Nov. 26, 1961, in Durango, the son of Jimm and Shirley Williams Goodtracks. He attended elementary school in Ignacio and moved with his family to the Tahlequah, Okla., area, where he attended high school at Stillwell and Tahlequah. He received his master’s degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango and was a doctoral candidate in Native American law at NMSU.

Mr. Goodtracks worked with Southern Ute and Otoe-Missouria Tribal Police. He was a member of Otoe-Missouria Iroshka Dance Society and the Native American Church.

Survivors include his father, Lawrence, Kan., and mother, Ignacio; four daughters, Juniper, Keyenta, Ariz., and Alexandria, Gabriella and Isabella, all of Las Cruces, N.M.; a son, Sebastian, Las Cruces; five brothers, Rob, Lark and Joaquin, all of Ignacio, and Dore “Paco” Ramon and Diego Hawk Hartico, both of Lawrence; three sisters, BadhiMi “Melinda” and Jennifer Goodtracks-Alires, both of Ignacio, and Nina Hartico, Oklahoma City; and a grandson.

Hood Mortuary in Durango assisted with arrangements.
