Buffalo sale set Nov. 17

Wildlife and Parks maintains several small herds of buffalo across the state. As these herds grow, the agency sells it surplus animals.

On Nov. 17 at Maxwell Wildlife Area, near McPherson, approximately 84 buffalo will be offered at a public auction.

Most of the animals come from the Maxwell herd, which is the largest. People from all over Kansas and surrounding states come to buy buffalo, which last year sold for as little as $175 for a heifer calf or as much as $825 for a 21/2-year-old bull.

The refuge is 6 miles north and 11/2 miles west of Canton.
