Ruth E. Barnes

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ? Private graveside services for Ruth E. Barnes, 85, Lawrence, will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan.

Mrs. Barnes died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 29, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan.

Mrs. Barnes received a law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1942.

She was executive director of Santa Fe Trail Council of Girl Scouts from 1965 to 1972. She retired in 1984 as executive vice president of commercial accounts, Title Services, in Olathe. She volunteered with Cub Scouts, REACH and ICAN.

She married Owen C. Barnes in 1946. He died in 1969.

A son, John A. Barnes, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Terry Barnes, Tonganoxie; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
