HINU home debut tonight

Haskell Indian Nations University’s men’s basketball team will make its home debut tonight after stumbling in its season opener Tuesday night against Baker University in Baldwin.

The Indians will meet McPherson College at 7:30 tonight at Coffin Complex.

Baker took advantage of chilly Haskell shooting and toppled the Indians, 72-49. A dozen BU players scored. David Ward and Ross Thompson led the Wildcats with 11 points apiece. Lawrence High product D.J. Watkins and Wellsville native Josh Flett added 10 points apiece.

Ward added a team-high six rebounds as the ‘Cats enjoyed a 40-32 edge on the boards.

Marcus Olveira led HINU with 15 points and seven rebounds. The Indians shot only 27 percent (17 of 63). Baker made 43 percent (24 of 56) of its shots.
