St. Joseph livestock
St. Joseph, Mo. (ap) -- Quotations for Wednesday:
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 3.00-5.00 lower. Not enough steers over 700 lbs or heifers over 650 lbs to test price trends. Best demand for thin weaned calves and these sold near steady. Most offerings fleshy as pastures still green and growing in November, corn below 1.70 a bushel and many calves still have milk fat. Slaughter market struggling as packers trying to get the wholesale beef trade back in line with kill costs and they are only slaughtering 32 to 36 hours per week. Supply included 57 percent steers and 33 percent heifers. Near 27 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
