The last word in the 2004 political campaign belongs to those who cast their ballots.
Today's the day. Thousands of Douglas County residents already have taken advantage of advance voting to cast their ballots, and many thousands more hopefully will go to the polls today. It is both our right and our privilege every four years to support our democracy by registering our choices for president and other important offices.
Voter registration is high, but that won't matter if people don't get out and vote. There may be some lines at the polls today, but we have confidence that, even in the face of many reports of voting concerns across the nation, our local officials will do everything they can to conduct a fair and efficient election.
Many races have been hotly contested this year. In many instances candidates on today's ballot represent clear contrasts in terms of policy and philosophy. Voters have some clear choices before them. The candidates have made their case. Now, it's up to us.
