Kansas economic growth continues to slide

— The overall index in Kansas declined for the third straight month in October, though it stood at a strong 69, down from September's stronger 73.5 and August's 74.8.

Components of the business conditions index were new orders, 83.3; production, 79.2; delivery speed, 41.7; inventories, 54.2; employment, 62.5; and business confidence, 66.7.

"Higher prices for imported goods pushed the state's prices-paid index to a regional high 95.8," said Ernie Goss, Creighton University economics professor. "Kansas durable goods manufacturers report improving economic conditions at the same time that nondurable goods manufacturers, especially food processors, report slowdowns in new orders, production and hiring."
