Evelyn H. Hickman

? Services for Evelyn H. Hickman, 79, De Soto, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at De Soto United Methodist Church. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery.

Mrs. Hickman died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born March 27, 1925, in rural De Soto, the daughter of Earl and Grace Ross. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1943.

Mrs. Hickman worked for the De Soto grade school for many years. She then worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, retiring after 25 years as a lab technician.

She was an active member of Order of the Eastern Star chapter No. 78 and White Shrine of Jerusalem chapter No. 21 in Shawnee. She also was a member of De Soto’s Women’s Auxiliary VFW and De Soto United Methodist Church, and was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leavenworth.

She married Lester W. Hickman on July 12, 1943. He died May 18, 1974.

Survivors include a son, Gary, Eudora; a daughter, Jan Fishburn, Olathe; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
