Carroll Dean Harker

? Services for Carroll Dean Harker, 71, McLouth, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McLouth United Methodist Church. Burial will be in McLouth Cemetery.

Mr. Harker died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Leavenworth, the son of Harry Milton and Frances Anna Courtney Harker. He was a lifelong resident of the McLouth area.

Mr. Harker owned and operated Harker Insurance and Real Estate in McLouth, where he was a real estate broker, land developer and insurance agent for more than 30 years. He also worked at Bank of McLouth for 10 years and Leavenworth-Jefferson Area Rural Electric Co-op for eight years. He worked at Hercules Powder Plant in De Soto for four years and was co-owner of R & H Department Store on the square in Oskaloosa for 16 years. He served as mayor of McLouth from 1978 to 1980 and as McLouth city clerk for 17 years.

He was a member of the church, where he was in the choir and served as chairman of the building committee. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4015 in Oskaloosa. He also was a member and past master of Henri Masonic Lodge, and a member and past worthy patron of Order of Eastern Star, Rinda Chapter, both of Tonganoxie. He was a 30-year member of McLouth Kiwanis Club.

He married Wanda R. Turner on Oct. 16, 1955, in McLouth. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Kevin Dean, Leawood; four daughters, Teresa Harker Woodhead, McLouth, Denise Harker Redel, Kansas City, Mo., Karen Harker Sparks, Tonganoxie, and Michelle Harker Eastman, Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Maxine V. Ready, Oskaloosa; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
