— Albert J. Bonner, 87, Lafayette, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Lafayette. He was a lifelong Lafayette resident and graduated from St. Boniface Grade School, Jefferson High School and Indiana Business College.

Mr. Bonner worked for the Journal and Courier for 32 years. He retired in December 1983 after working as general manager for 26 years. He formerly worked at Peerless Wire Goods Co., Robert Binz Accounting Firm and Purdue University. He served in the 96th Bomb Group in England for four years during World War II.

He was a life member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, where he served as chairman of the parish council and on numerous committees. He also was a member of Lafayette Catholic Schools Fiscal Committee.

Mr. Bonner was a former member of Lafayette Exchange Club and John Purdue Gold Coats Club. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 456, American Legion Post No. 11 and Century Club of Central Catholic Athletic Assn.

He also served on the board of directors for the United Way, Downtown Business Center, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Matrix Lifeline and United Cerebral Palsy. He served on the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Lay Advisory Council for 20 years, including two years as chairman. He received an honorary George Award from the Journal and Courier in 1983 and the St. Elizabethan Award from St. Elizabeth Medical Center in 1989.

He married Mary A. Zink on June 10, 1958. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Albert R., Lawrence, Kan.; three daughters, Mary Ann Vawter, Lafayette, Barbara L. Stein, Indianapolis, and Carol M. O'Toole, Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Mary C. Parker.
