Vida Marie Nioce

Services for Vida Marie Nioce, 86, Horton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mrs. Nioce died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Tri-County Manor in Horton.

She was born Aug. 17, 1917, on the Kickapoo Reservation west of Horton, the daughter of Richard Sr. and Maude Rhodd Simon.

She worked in Horton at Slim Makers Dress Factory and the J.C. Penney department store. She moved to Lawrence in 1959 and was the kitchen supervisor at Haskell Junior College until her retirement in 1973. She moved back to Horton in 1995.

Mrs. Nioce was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe.

She married Ernest L. Nioce on Sept. 13, 1937. He died June 30, 1984.

A son, Charles Nioce Sr., died Oct. 12, 1991, and a granddaughter also died earlier.

Survivors include her daughter-in law and caregiver, Betty L. Nioce, Horton; a brother, Ralph E. Simon, Netawaka; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
