Arizona puts Sexson on 15-day DL

? Arizona first baseman Richie Sexson was placed back on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with an injured left shoulder.

Sexson, who partially dislocated and tore a muscle in the shoulder while checking his swing against the Chicago Cubs on April 28, reaggravated the injury on another check swing against Florida on Saturday — just his second game since being activated.

“It’s definitely the low point in my career, no doubt,” Sexson said.

He will be evaluated by a team physician today in Phoenix.

Sexson said he felt the shoulder slide out, then back into place on the check swing — the same thing that happened when he injured it originally. If surgery is necessary, Sexson said he’d prefer to postpone it until the offseason.

“You don’t ever want to be hurt,” Sexson said. “It’s just one of those things. I’m just going to have to deal with it.”

The team called up outfielder Doug Devore from Triple-A Tucson to fill Sexson’s spot on the roster. Entering Sunday, Devore had hit .143 in eight games with the Diamondbacks this season.

Shea Hillenbrand took Sexson’s spot in the Arizona lineup at first base for Sunday’s game. He hit .300 in 18 games when Sexson was previously on the disabled list this season.
