To the editor:
I am responding to Niki Christopher's tirade (Public Forum, May 11). Why is it so difficult for some smokers to understand there are non-smokers who would like the freedom to attend concerts, bars and restaurants without the stench and the health risks of secondhand smoke? This is a free country. You are free to smoke in your home or outside. But you should not be free to impose your unhealthy habits on others.
I say "right on" to our current city fathers and mothers. To Niki Christopher I would say "grow up" and keep your entertainment dollars in Lawrence where we are enlightened enough to protect non-smokers from secondhand smoke.
