Warm and muggy conditions continue overnight

If you like saunas, just walk outside — warm temperatures and high humidity are creating sticky, muggy conditions in Lawrence.

Although there had been a chance of thunderstorms in the forecast earlier, it now looks like storms will bypass Lawrence this evening, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“I don’t think we’ll see any. It should remain dry this afternoon through the evening hours,” Sayers said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop down to a low of 71 by Thursday morning, with is only seven degrees away from the average afternoon high for this month.

Thursday’s forecast calls for continued warm and muggy conditions, with a high of 89.

“We’ll have high cumulus clouds developing, with a chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon,” Sayers said. Most of the thunderstorms will stay northeast of Lawrence, he said.

Friday morning, the temperature will start at 71, under partly cloudy skies.

“Soupy remains the theme of the forecast (Friday), with 87 degrees the high,” he said.

Saturday morning’s low will be 69, climbing to 88 during the day under partly cloudy skies.

For Kansas University’s commencement activities on Sunday, there’s a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, he said.
