City rematch washed

Rain ended any hope of playing this year’s second Lawrence High-Free State baseball game. Originally scheduled for Thursday night, the annual battle between the Lions and Firebirds was postponed to Friday because of wet grounds. But then more rain fell and Free State’s field remained a quagmire.

“It’s suitable for mud volleyball,” FSHS athletic director Steve Grant said Friday, “but not much else.”

Free State and Lawrence High could meet in the Class 6A state playoffs Wednesday.
