Sanders leaving CBS

New York — Deion Sanders is leaving CBS’ “NFL Today” after two seasons with the pregame show.

The outspoken Sanders, a seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback during a 12-year NFL career, joined the program as a contributor during the 2001 season. For the past two seasons he has been a studio analyst, with Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason and Jim Nantz.

The only person to play in the World Series and the Super Bowl, Sanders played in the NFL with Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas and Washington. He played baseball with the New York Yankees, Atlanta, Cincinnati and San Francisco.

Glass leads Senior Open

Sterling Heights, Mich. — Lawrence’s Bob Glass shot 1,901 in the first eight games of match play Thursday night to push his four-day, 35-game pinfall total to 8,219, giving him the overall lead in the PBA Senior U.S. Open at Sunnybrook Lanes.

Glass used a 5-2-1 match play record to take the overall lead by 120 pins. He also shot his second 300 game of the tournament.

“Even though I have the lead now,” he said, “it definitely isn’t safe.”

The top 24 bowlers will return today to resume match play and bowl 16 more games before the field is cut to four. The stepladder finals will be held at 7:30 tonight to determine the winner of the $20,000 first-place prize.
