Rain ruins city high school lineup

Heavy rains sweeping across eastern Kansas washed away most high school sporting events Thursday.

Among the postponements was the city showdown baseball matchup between Lawrence High and Free State. The two teams will try to make it up at 5:30 p.m. today at Free State, though a soggy field might prevent that.

If the game cannot be played today, it likely won’t be played at all. Class 6A regionals start next week, and seedings will be announced Saturday.

Among the other postponements Thursday:

  • The Lawrence High softball team’s makeup doubleheader with Olathe North once again was scratched because of weather. The two teams will try again at 6:15 tonight at the Olathe District Activities Center.
  • The Seabury Academy girls soccer game with Leavenworth Immaculata was canceled and will not be made up.
  • The Free State girls soccer team’s makeup game with Shawnee Mission East was canceled. No makeup date has been set.
